In 2011 The Southern Cooperative funded four National hives, complete with necessary equipment and we arranged for them to be accommodated on our site.

The hives are managed by the Portsmouth & District Bee Keeping Association and have produced a small crop of honey each year, raising a few hundred of pounds for the PDBKA.

The Southern Co-operative in conjunction with the PDBKA are giving people a unique chance to get up close and personal with the bees – bee keepers suits are supplied for protection! This is followed by a wildlife walk around Lakeside looking at the flora and fauna of the site.

All visits are from 1100–1530 and limited spaces are still available on the following dates:

• 26th July
• 30th August
• 27th September
• 25th October
